Nậm Củn 2 Hydropower Project (Sa Pa District, Lào Cai Province) is a diversion-type hydropower development supervised by VCE. The project was completed and began generating electricity in 2019.
The project is located on the Ngòi Bo Stream and has no headworks dam. The intake works, comprising a forebay and an intake structure, are located immediately downstream of the Nậm Củn powerhouse tailrace channel. Water is then conveyed through a tunnel to the powerhouse.
The water conveyance system comprises a forebay 9.5 m wide and 55 m long immediately downstream of the Nậm Củn powerhouse tailrace channel; a headrace tunnel 642.8 m long with a clear diameter of D = 5 m; and a surge tank with D = 12 m and a height of 22 m, with a connecting shaft 3 m in diameter and 13.5 m high.
The diversion-type powerhouse contains 02 Kaplan turbine units, with an installed capacity of 6.8 MW and average annual generation of 25.78 million kWh. Maximum generating head: Hmax = 23.8 m; maximum design discharge through the generating units: Qmax = 46.2 m³/s.
