Nậm Củn Hydropower Project (Sa Pa District, Lào Cai Province) is a diversion-type hydropower development supervised by VCE. The project was completed and began generating electricity in 2018.
The project is located on the Ngòi Bo Stream. The reservoir has a storage capacity of approximately 1.63 million m³, impounded by a concrete gravity dam approximately 43.2 m high. The spillway has 03 bays fitted with radial gates, each 13.5 m wide.
The water conveyance system on the right bank comprises an intake structure; a headrace tunnel 3518.5 m long with a clear diameter of D = 4.4 m; and a surge tank with D = 9 m and a height of 44.5 m, with a connecting shaft 4.4 m in diameter and 52 m high.
The diversion-type powerhouse contains 02 vertical-shaft Francis turbine units, with an installed capacity of 40 MW and average annual generation of 144.74 million kWh. Maximum generating head: Hmax = 110.2 m; maximum design discharge through the generating units: Qmax = 46.2 m³/s.
