Bảo Nhai 2 Hydropower Project (Bắc Hà District, Lào Cai Province) is a dam-integrated hydropower plant on the Chảy River, designed directly by VCE. The project was completed and began generating electricity in 2022. VCE studied the project and proposed its inclusion in the development plan to utilise the remaining head between Bảo Nhai 1 and Nậm Lúc hydropower plants.
The reservoir has a storage capacity of approximately 5.5 million m³, impounded by a concrete gravity dam approximately 27.5 m high. The spillway has 05 gated bays, each 14 m wide. The powerhouse contains 02 bulb turbine units (Capsule), with a total installed capacity of 14.5 MW and average annual generation of 49.97 million kWh. Rated head: Htt = 5.8 m; rated discharge through the generating units: Qmax = 285 m³/s. A 35 kV GIS substation at the plant connects to the Bảo Nhai 110 kV collector substation via a 3 km, 35 kV transmission line. From the Bảo Nhai 110 kV collector substation, Bảo Nhai 1 & 2 plants connect to the national grid over a distance of 4.7 km.
