Nậm Công 5 Hydropower Project (Sông Mã District, Sơn La Province) is a diversion-type hydropower plant on the Nậm Công Stream, designed directly by VCE. The project was completed and began generating electricity in 2018.
The reservoir has a storage capacity of approximately 35,000 m³, impounded by a concrete gravity dam approximately 14.2 m high, with a 65 m wide overflow spillway.
The water conveyance system on the right bank of the dam comprises an intake structure; a headrace channel with B × H = 3.0 × 3.7 m and a length of 1070 m; a forebay 7.5 m wide and 70 m long; and a penstock 2.5 m in diameter and 39.6 m long.
The powerhouse contains 02 vertical-shaft Kaplan turbine units, with a total installed capacity of N = 4 MW and average annual generation of Eo = 14.9 million kWh. Rated head: Htt = 16.25 m; rated discharge through the generating units: Qmax = 32.5 m³/s.
